Vietnam Practicalities - Food in Hue 順化美食

We took a private car from Stop and Go between Danang and Hue. We were not fortunate with the weather. It was foggy at Hai Van Pass and cloudy at the other two sightseeing points, Lang Co Beach and Lap On Lagoon (Dam Am Cu).  No worry, the atmosphere was romantic and we had a nice ride.  Our driver told us that locals like the Hanh Restaurant. To have a great view of the city, one should go up to the Sky Bar at the top floor of the Vinpearl Hotel. Very valid recommendations!

我們在Stop and Go 租了私家車和司機由蜆港出發至順化。在天氣方面我們不是很幸運,離開蜆港後一路上是密雲,位於高處及可俯瞰海灣美麗全境的Hoi Van Pass 很大霧,而在其他兩個觀光點 Lang Co Beach 和 Lap On Lagoon 也是烏雲密佈,但是不要緊,氣氛很浪漫,我們有一個非常輕鬆愉快的旅程。司機介紹我們當地人都喜歡去Hanh Restaurant,如果要見到一個美麗的城市夜景可去Vinpearl Hotel樓頂的Sky Bar。


After we have checked in at The Scarlett Boutique Hotel, we had a walk along the Perfume River. A lot of people were enjoying nice moments with families or friends. Around the bridge were some food hawkers. The later the day went, the number of hawkers increased.  Only after it has turned completely dark, we headed to dinner.


我們於 The Scarlett Boutique Hotel 酒店安頓後便沿着香水河 河邊散步。很多人正在與家人和朋友享受快樂的時光。錢場的附近有一些賣小食的小販,天越黑小販的數量便越多,我們行至完全天黑才開始去找晚飯的地方。



We followed our hotel's recommendations for dinners. Hahn and Madam Thu serving local food were great. Bistro La Carambole serving both Vietnamese and Continental was OK.


我們三個晚上都是去了酒店推介的餐廳用膳,Hanh RestaurantMadam Thu 提供的本地菜式令人回味無窮,Bistro La Carambole 提供越南和歐陸菜式,大致可以。


Hahn restaurant was full of people when we arrived.  Guests kept coming.  Though very busy, the service level was good. Waiters and waitress were kind. A tasting menu was offered at VND120,000.  It covers:

  • bánh bèo (steamed rice cake with savory toppings), 
  • bánh cuốn thịt nướng (fresh rice roll with shrimps and salad), 
  • bánh khoai (Hue crispy shrimp and vegetable pancakes), 
  • nem lui (grilled minced pork roll on lemongrass stalks served with rice paper, salad and peanut sauce) and 
  • nem rán (crispy spring roll)
我們到達 Hanh Restaurant 時,餐廳到處都是人,全場爆滿,但客人還是繼續的來,雖然很忙,但是服務水準還是很好的,侍應都很有禮貌和耐心,餐廳提供一個試食套餐,只需120,000越南盾便可以了,食物包括:
  • 蒸米糕配以撒在糕面的配料
  • 新鮮米皮肉卷包着蝦,還有沙律配菜
  • 源自順化又脆又薄的蝦薄餅
  • 穿插於香茅枝的炭燒豬肉,將豬肉和沙律放在米紙上,然後包裹着及蘸上花生醬,實在太美味了!
  • 炸春卷



    We ordered one set menu and extra dishes for varieties. Majority dishes of the set menu came with three pieces. You won't be hungry.


    我們點了試食套餐和其他食物,是試套餐的小食大多是3件的,所以絕對足夠,不會餓。

    Bánh Bèo
    Bánh bèo and nem lui are specialties of Hue and originated there.  English translation for bánh bèo is waterfern cakes, They are made with rice flour and tapioca flour. On top are dried shrimps, crispy pork skin. They are served with dipping sauce. The texture is a combination of soft and crisp.  Nice!


    Bánh bèo是源於順化的特色小食,英文翻譯是威化蛋糕,糕是用米粉和木薯粉造成的,上面灑上一些蝦乾和炸脆的豬皮,吃的時候可以蘸上清新的醬汁,口感是軟和脆,非常捧!


    Nem lui (featured photo at top) is one of our favourites in Vietnam.  And it seems that it is commonly available in Hue but not everywhere else in Vietnam.  The combination of grilled minced pork, salad, rice paper and the dip tastes superb.  We were happy to eat more. But only three we
    re served in the set menu.  Our extra dishes were bun cha, bánh nậm and passion fruit pudding. Pudding is not a typical dessert in Vietnam. It was refreshing and yummy. Our meal ended with sweet satisfaction.

    Nem lui (最上的一張照片)是我們在越南其中一款最喜愛的小吃,它在順化非常好普遍,但不是在越南每一個角落都可以找到。炭燒免治豬肉、沙律、米紙和醬汁的混合簡直是一絕,我們很想吃多一些,奈何試食套餐只得三件。我們額外點了bun cha, bánh nậm和熱情果布甸,布甸不是越南的甜品,但很新鮮又美味,我們的晚餐在大滿足中完結。





    Madam Thu was our dinner destination on the second night. It serves excellent food in a more aesthetic way than Hanh. Both the taste and outlook win the hearts of dining guests.  We like all the dishes.


    第二天晚上我們去了Madam Thu,它的食物非常好,擺設也比Hanh Restaurant 漂亮很多,味道和賣相都捉住了客人的心,我們喜愛所有的食物。




    Our choice of dinner on the third night was Bistro La Carambole. It was a change of taste, from Vietnamese to French / fusion cuisine.  The salad with avocado and shrimps was good.  The duck in orange sauce was just OK, meat was a bit rough. My steak was fine but could be better.  Crepe with flame was also fine.

    在最後的一個晚上我們選擇了 Bistro La Carambole,這是一個味道上的轉變,由越南菜轉至法國/fusion菜,牛油果和蝦沙律非常美味,香橙鴨還可以,但肉質有點粗,我的牛扒是中規矩的,但可以更好,火焰法式薄餅也勉勉強強。



    If you are in the mood of Vietnamese snacks, you can try Lac Thien. We were there after we have visited the Citadel.  It is close to the river, on the side before crossing the bridge.  Both locals and tourists like it.  Food was cooked freshly.  Very good value for the food.

    如果你很喜歡越南的小吃,那麼你應該試一試 Lac Thien,我們參觀完順化古城之後來到這裏,餐廳很接近河邊,本地人和遊客都很喜歡在這裏進食,食物都是現場新鮮烹調的,價廉物美,性價比很高。
