Happurg

Happurg is a municipality in the district of Nürnberger Land in Bavaria in Germany. During World War II, a subcamp of Flossenbürg concentration camp was located here.  As we were in Nürnberg, my friend's home city, we took the S-bahn to this quiet spot on a Sunday.

The S-bahn station in Happurg is a bit far from the city. All the way through to residential houses and the lake/reservoir was silent, with no one else seen.

Until we reached the path leading to the Happurger See (Lake), we saw signs of life. Folks were going to the lake to enjoy a relaxed Sunday. Initially, there were shades but then we were exposed to the strong sun.

A 4-kilometer beautiful circular hiking trail leads around the Happurger reservoir. On the hike you can take a close look at the lake from all sides. Benches along the way invite you to linger and watch people playing their water spots. They looked more leisure than we, the tourists.

In summer you can find a nice spot to rest on the way and refresh yourself in the cool water of the lake, because swimming is allowed at the reservoir. Sailing, surfing and stand-up paddling are also popular water sports.

At time, sunflowers bloomed nearby the Happurger lake. They are gorgeously beautiful.

If you need to have a food break, you can stop off at Café Seeterrassen and have breathtaking views.

Slowly we headed back to the S-bahn station. Since there was still much time for the next train to come, a short visit was made to the Baggersee (The Happurg Quarry Pond), north of the S-bahn station. The Baggersee was much smaller, with much less people but very beautiful and romantic.

It was already after 2pm. We took the S-bahn and headed to Lauf an der Pegnitz for a total different scene and a coffee break.
