Roofed Belverdere Palazzo Lombardia, Milan

Palazzo Lombardia, Milan is the main seat of the Lombardy government. It is a complex of buildings including a 39-level skyscraper.  On the top is a huge covered terrace, opened every Sunday from 10am onwards.  We had a fantastic panoramic view over Milan. On even better days, one can see the snow mountains from far.

Once we were at the building of Palazzo Lombardia Milan we saw a short queue.  Security guards escorted us to the lift at the time of the opening.  We could take the second lift.  Within seconds we could have the whole Milan under our feet.

Let's start from the buildings of the closest to furtherest. Nearby is the Uni Credit Tower and Square in the new 'Porta Nuova' area.  It was the highest skyscraper in Milan when it was opened in 2012.  It has a lovely square with many shops and a big Esselunge supermarket.  People are always around. One corner of it is extended to Corso Garibaldi and further to the city centre.

Connected to the neighbour district Isola is a new green park.  At time, wheat was planted. Nice to see the green to sooth the eyes in the big bustle city. Isola means island.  It is a 19th century working class and sleepy residential area but has been expanded in the recent years. Families, young professionals and some TV celebrities are moving into the district.  Housing prices soar. For example, an apartment with terrace gardens at Bosco Verticale cost €1m to €10.8m in mid 2014.

Another close spot is the Central Railway Station.  It is the second largest railway station in Italy.  Not only as a transport hub but it serves many functions such as shopping, wine and dine.

The other direction is Milan's central cemetery, Clmitero Monumentale.  The place is dotted with artistic and beautiful tombs and monuments.

Leo Burnett has grouped with its sister companies together in an area not far away from the Zara district.  The design is innovative, with different colour blocks in a quiet, not so much visited district, Maciachini.

If you view the panorama as various circumferences, significant buildings positioned in the middle are the Cathedral and Sforzesco Castle.   Splendid and elegant!  Eternal beauties!

Now, let's go to the furtherest circumference.  You will see a magnificent and round-shape convention centre and nearby the AC Milan Museum.

Moving to the left, you will notice a high modern building, II Dritto - Torre Isozaki.  In future, another two modern buildings, from Zaha Hadid and Liebeskind, will be completed to form a complex of CityLife Office Tower in Milan.

Neighbour to the Torre Dritto are residences designed by Zaha Hadid and Liebeskind.  They are modern and luxurious homes to the rich.

Expo is still a hot topic in Milan now.  From the top of the Lombardy Palace, you can barely see the Expo buildings, with a bit of imagination and visualisation.   They are behind the Barcelo Hotel.  The photo underneath is a new bridge for the Expo and the Italian Pavilion behind.

The above are the sights from the roof. When you descend to the ground floor, also take a look of the arts surrounding. There are various beautiful columns.
